Ram 1500 2009-2018 | Rear and Front Differential and Transfer Case Fluid Change | Do It Yourself

@MundaneMan takes you through the process of changing the front differential, rear limited slip differential and transfer case fluids on RAM 1500 Trucks from 2009 to 2018. Each component requires a different type of fluid. I outline the brands that I used that meet the manufacturer's specifications. Overall the job is not too complicated however if you are lying on your back the refilling process can be challenging.

Because my RAM 1500 has the limited slip rear differential I made sure to add the Mopar Friction Modifier.

Rear Differential - Pennzoil Platinum Axle Oil SAE 75W-140 - API GL-5
Mopar Limited Slip Additive - Friction Modifier
Front Differential - Castrol Axle Limited Slip 80W-90 - API GL-5
Transfer Case - Mopar Transfer Case Lubricant Pre-2016 44-44
Part Number 68089195AA

If you have a 2016 and up Ram 1500 then use ask the dealer parts department what is the correct fluid type you should use.

Here is a helpful link to get the details about the factory options your RAM came with. All you need to do is enter your VIN.

The last few differentials I've done I've been buying Valvoline gear oil. It now comes in a quart size bag which is great for getting in tight spots when refilling.

Amsoil and valvoline sell the nozzle tip pouches.. it's an easy job with that option.

I don't think you need the additive with the limited slip labeled gear oil. It already has it.

YOU MAY WANT TO CHECK THE ANOUNT ON THE ADDATIVE, MY MANUAL CALLS FOR A VERY SPECIFIC AMOUNT OF OUNCES NOT THE WHOLE BOTTLE….

Never do drain plug first…..and should of dumped the additive first….use the bags…
