I'm an Amazon software engineer that just wanted to share my opinions on why I think leetcode sucks. Hope you all enjoy this video I made for you :)

I'm a .Net/JS fullstack. I've built several scalable on prem and cloud solutions and I have never seen an leetcode style issue.
You know what real software development is?

People, organisations, requirements, assumptions, system design.

If anyone think development is about writing code you are seriously misunderstanding what we are doing. We are problem solvers and code is just one of our tools.

Yep, heard this same thing from different developers. Kinda feel it too. Like I see the point in shallow knowledge about data structures. Just to know when and what to use. But those complex problems you mostly does not see in real world projects. I don't know. What would be a good assessment then?

Yeah you can be a very good software engineer but if you cant solve problems in interview they will kick you out, leetcode just makes us work on interview problems, realone a little different

I hate it because leet code just makes everyone one dimensional. Instead of learning something of depth, they force devs to waste brain power rote memorizing trivia. We could be developing software to help put people on Mars, but apparently a problem involving palindromes is more important. Also, the entire scheme is getting undermined by people who have leetcoded leetcode to death. As a result, the questions are being made worded in such a way to obscure the subject matter. So instead of saying a particular problem involves polindromes, they'll beat around the bush by giving obscure facts about a polindrome and ask someone to program it, which will blindside perfectly good programmers.

Meanwhile, hiring managers are convinced that people who can't do leetcode are just bullshitters with a resume even if they have a stable job in the industry for 5+ years.
