The reason that horse theft in the old west was a capital offense is you steal a man's horse, you steal the man's ability to feed himself. I feel the same way about tools.

Tell him he needs to get a Personal Articles Policy for his tools. Most insurance companies can do it, dirt cheap and covers the cost of each tool individually against damage, theft and mysterious disappearance.

An engineer friend of mine painted all of her tools pink and etched her name on them as well. No one ever stole them or even borrowed them. Good plan.

This is truly horrible situation. As a blue collar worker your tools are how you make your living and support your family.

Good job supporting him and encouraging him and not nagging or putting blame, that’s a real helpmeet!

My husband had all his tools stolen when we were traveling with our truck and trailer, it was our home. The truck was done we were stranded in the middle of nowhere hungry with no help then that happened. Ill mever forget going to bed that night cold hungry and totally scared. Weve definitely made it through some tough times ❤

My company once found stolen tools only four blocks away at a pawn shop. The pawn dealer had some trouble for that because everything had a company tracking number and label on it that said "Property of..." and he didn't get a copy of the sellers drivers license.

If the tools were in a toolbox, place a AirTag in the toolbox that way you can track it. Most thief’s will sell the whole toolbox so they won’t be looking for the AirTag. Then call the police to recover it and arrest the person that has it. I feel you, I had a generator stolen from my truck that was even bolted down luckily I had a AirTag glued underneath it and the police were able to recover it after I had tracked it down

We do commercial refridgeration and we were working in Mobile AL, we were staying at a really nice hotel that had a placard that said the parking lot had cameras. We parked between 2 other work trucks of guys that were on the jobsite with us. We had to be on the job early at 6am the next morning to be able to finish up b4 10am for the owners to do their walk and poke up the punch list. We were rushed to get out and I didn't notice one of my tool bins were open until I saw it open up on the road. I just figured it hadn't been closed properly the night before and the automatic lock was engaged, it was a bin that just held stuff like caulk and tape type supplies, no tools. We gey on the job and I go to grab my impact and tool belt and they were gone, everything worth money was gone except for the really expensive stuff like my gauges and vacuum pump, specialty stuff. To say I was pissed is an understatement since most of the tools were my personal tools and not the companies. Went back to the hotel and called the cops and asked about the surveillance footage o ly to find out their idea of cameras covering the parking lot was one camera inside the doorway covering just the front door and 1 parking spot out front. The cop said they file reports at least 3 times a week at that one and the hotel beside it. I am convinced the hotel owners have a kickback from the thieves bc of how much bs they gave and refused to give the cop the footage w/o a warrant even though they didn't have my truck covered. I asked around that afternoon and discovered that week, 2 other trucks had been robbed. My boss was cool and replaced all of the company and my personal tools that were stolen, had to file it on the ins but co sidering it was over $7, 000 total lost, I don't blame him, oh and the ins company is going after the hotel for all the grief they caused and having the sign up claiming the parking lot was covered when it wasn't.

Sorry bro!!! That’s a good lesson on why you take extra care of your tools! I’m an electrician and have had stuff stolen but I take my tools with me every single day even when I leave for lunch and LOCK what ever vehicle or job box they are in. Also on all my Milwaukee tools I take pics of the serial numbers and carve my initials deep in the battery slot with a knife or wood burner!!

Yup been there and needed to replace tools. In fact, I still have those Ace Hardware/ Stanley combination wrench sets from 24 years ago. Those cheap tools earned for my Snap On. Keep moving forward man!

The best investment I ever made for construction/data/fiber job is I bought the rigid job box. Bought the 48” and it holds everything including an overnight bag.

I welded a small box under it for a AirTag w/speaker removed.

The smaller rigid box would fit in the rv or truck or hatch of a suv.

When I went out of town the family stay where we’re from, probably would have been a lot better to be traveling with everyone, bringing home with you. Keep supporting him
