GoPro TimeWarp VS Timelapse | A Guide For Beginners

In this video, I go over the difference between filming in TimeWarp Mode and filming in TimeLapse mode on a GoPro and what mode you should choose in different scenarios. Basically a TimeWarp video is the same as a Hyperlapse video, GoPro just gave the feature a creative name. The GoPro Hero 9 Black introduced TimeWarp 3.0 and it brought some new features such as half-speed ramping and real-time ramping with audio. I include lots of samples comparing a Time-Lapse video to a TimeWarp video.

I have got the Hero 9 Black for Christmas. I have no idea how it works and being a very old guy (70) might take me a while! But the bike rides in 4k have been good, just have to get used to the way it operates. This video has explained the Time and Hyper modes well enough for me to go take a try. Cheers buddy. (edited cos my spelling was buggered!)

Good to know stuff here. One thing I noticed in the driving section... In Time lapse Mode (3:20) - the camera keeps the foreground (the hood of the car) rock steady, which makes the scenery appear just a little more shakey. Conversely - in the Time Warp Mode at 3:45 - the camera keeps the horizon steady, but the car's hood moves around much more than Time Lapse. So it's good to know what you want to remain stable - the subject or the background - and then choose accordingly. Thanks for the demo!

This is a super useful tutorial! The hyper laps was stabilizing the horizon...it’s a pretty big difference.

Wow, I had no idea that there’s a difference between the two. Time warp looks so much smoother, gonna switch to it for my travel videos. Thanks for putting this together!

Air PHotography... you're the BEST! You EXPLAIN and SHOW how it works and the real difference btween TL and TW. Loved it.

So, I've tried both Time Warp and Time Lapse while driving using my GoPro 9, and ultimately I end up using Time Lapse for two main reasons. (1) The field of view in Time Lapse is wider. It allows me to capture more while driving, and if I need it to be more stabilized, I can use a warp stabilizer in post. I have a really stiff suspension no my car and it still has yet to be an issue. (2) This is really the main reason...the Time Warp has a tendency to shift it's FOV and "lean" left or right to follow the curve on a road. While it's not a big deal to some, it REALLY looks strange to me when coming to a stop after an off-ramp and watch the video slide left or right until it's recentered. The car isn't moving, but the video's frame is. Once seen, it cannot be unseen.

Great vids, great channel! Keep up the great content!

@Air Photography Nice tips, thx
But for 2:15 : I am realy confused how the Gopro wants to know how long i want to capture and set the right Speed (Speed=Interval in TimeWarp?)
So there is a big difference betwen a 10 min laps an a 8 hour laps??
Therefore i do not want to end up with a 10min capture as an 0.5s Video (to short) - or an 8h capture with a 2h Video (to long)

I love the timewarp function! Works well when driving for a longer distance

Great Video. I used to find both confusing but I believe that best way to distinguish them both is in the use. For Timlapse, I have my camera mounted on a tripod and I take static shots of the moving clouds or sunrise or sunset or the waves or movements but the key is that the Camera is mounted on a tripod. For time warp, I'm holding the camera with my hand while I walk down the street or park or mounted in your car while driving. So time-lapse for static shots of the clouds or sunsets and timewarp for movements while walking, or hiking etc.

Dude, your videos are some of the best I've seen on youtube! Besides the excellent subject matter, you waste absolutely 0 time! Every second is something useful. And your content, like the simultaneous side-by-side, is exactly what people want to see in a video like this. You should do a "how to make a youtube video" series!

So, i think for driving, walking, biking, the best option its time warp... its more stable... but what do you say about sunset, sunrise or clouds?? When you dont need to move the camera, which option its better? Timelapse or timewarp?

Thanks, I just got a go pro last week and tested out timewarp today. Now I know why my video didn't catch the audio when I hit the normal speed button (it was half speed) this helped a bunch. Looking forward to learning more gopro tricks from your channel.
