Swore I heard you say Dolby Vision.... I'm sure Samsung only uses HDR10+... BUT anyways, this TV is freaking awesome

Have been watching my 85" QN90A for a couple weeks now and absolutely love it. I've been using an LG 65" OLED wallpaper TV as my primary TV for about 3 1/2 years now and was worried I would immediately notice tons of downsides (little visual things tend to jump out and bother me, like motion smoothing artifacts etc)... Honestly can say I've almost never noticed blooming in real content. There's a reason comparisons need to have the same content side by side and cherry pick specific scenes and even then pause the scenes to notice. Just not a realistic use case for most people, including me. The only thing I really notice is the local dimming lag behind in very rare transitions from super dark to bright (or the other way, honestly can't remember) where for a split second it has almost a sort of faded green look. It's extremely rare. The blacks, contrast, etc don't visually seem any different than my OLED. The extra brightness in a lot of content is certainly far more noticeable than dimming artifacts or blooming IMHO and I love it. Though I'm even more impressed how it doesn't seem to over brighten a lot of content too. The first things I watched were challenging dark content, The Expanse and Lost in Space and it did excellent. I felt it delivered the dark content fantastically and kept it nice and dark which was something I was worried about since my wife and I watch a lot of dark stuff. Then when those bright scenes come on at this size it's really amazing. I'll add the disclaimer that I bought mine from Value Electronics (when it was at $3, 300) and paid for quality control (where they weed out the worst of DSE etc) and calibration. I love my calibrated modes where everything looks so natural.

I haven't compared them side by side where I might pick out things, but as someone who was worried going from OLED to the QN90A I can say I had no real issue. I'm sure there's content I'd prefer on either, but it's really a sidegrade now, at least based on my own experience, compared to the past where it felt like OLED was a clear upgrade. Don't get me wrong though, love my OLED and I might still get an 83" OLED when the prices drop a bit too. I will say that the size upgrade from 65" to 85" was far more impactful than the tech.

Upgraded from 65” q9fn 2018. Thought that was Samsungs best, this is better imo. Not a lot but blacks are better and it definitely is BRIGHT. Got the 85” as well was worried it was to big. Glad I made the jump up !! Great review btw. 👍🏻

I was searching for a good overall tv for almost 2 weeks now. Between Samsung, LG and Sony, I finally decided to go with Sony X90j. Samsung was a really good option but I can't stand tizen and bixby so if Samsung had Google TV then it would have been a obvious choice for me.

Purchased the model just below..75QN85A and loving it! Even though an IPS type panel, it has great blacks and contrast and lucked out with a clean panel (no DSE).

I had this TV next to the LG 83" and i played a video from youtube Los Angeles 8K and the C1 looked way better than this TV. The black crush on the mini led is very noticeable specially on the night scenes.

I have the QN90A 75" with the 950A samsung soundbar.

I checked out the 85" QN90A today and bright is a bit of an understatement - especially compared to OLED.

The competition in this space is definitely heating up: LG just announced their EX series for Q2 and Samsung is jumping into the mix with QD OLED.

Great video review of a great television. Thank you for the correction on the Dolby vision support, as well. I really appreciate the video quality on this review and all the in-depth information you had on this set and all its features, you just picked up a new subscriber. I look forward to more tech reviews of televisions and a few other tech items of interest from you going forward. I hope all is well for you and I'll catch your next tech review, Kevin.

You think it's a good idea to buy this year QN90A 50inch with VA Panel? For netflix and ps5?
