Here, we shall look at the Avro Lancaster Bomber’s Engine Cowlings. We shall look at wartime diagrams and my own photographs. We shall refer to extracts from the wartime Air Ministry manuals.

There are also two types; the Morris block power plant and the Serck power plant. The shapes of the radiator inlet cowling are different, with the Serck being wider to accommodate the larger inline radiator and oil cooler. The Morris block was the earlier type for the Merlin XX, with the Serck being for the more powerful Merlin 24.

In line and radial engines each have their unique sound. I like them a lot.

Good video Bryan,
As a rule the more dented a panel is, the harder it is to fit. The more paint scraped off the outer edges the harder it is to store, removed from the aircraft, or get off /on the access staging once removed.
