This was eye-opening for a cat owner of many decades. I've never had cats refuse to eat or complain about the bowls, but it does give me something to think about and watch for. Thank you for sharing!

Some cats are very serious about their whiskers. They don’t like to have their whiskers touch the side of the bowl. Most cat bowls are very small though they should be wider. Actually whiskers are very sensitive. They are there to help a cat gauge how wide a space is before entering. Apparently some cats are more sensitive than others.
I used to feed my cat from a wide soup bowl and she loved that but the raised bowls are even better. Some vets say that the raised bowl will help cats with digestive issues like those cats that tend to throw up after eating. I guess we wouldn’t much like sitting on the floor over our dishes as we eat either.

I ended up using paper plates for dry food. For wet food I use small, (tea cup) plates. I have two water bowls, one is a glass mixing bowl and the other is a stoneware serving bowl. All this to avoid whisker stress. The things we do for love!

Hi folks, some cats can also sometimes (if the age fits) be in arthritic pain, if they are, the bending to eat/drink can be painful. Tall bowls really help them feel better and more comfortable. I saw someone mention whisker fatigue and thats also something open fronted/tilted bowls help with as well. Take care of your kitties pet parents 😊

She's a lucky kitty to have a human who pays attention and takes the time to find a solution. They should all have it this good. 🥰

I find separating their food and water helps reduce stimuli and it’s instinctual for cats not to eat close to drinking water. Having water in a fountain that runs is better, because again in the wild, a flowing source is a safer one to drink from.

You have the patience of a saint! Thank you for your dedication to figure out which bowl your kitty would like to eat from. You’re amazing.

Sometimes cats don't like low dishes because they may have acid reflux from bending down while eating. Maybe she was trying to communicate this to the owner.

It's actually common for cats. They like it when water and food source are elevated so they don't have to bend their necks.

it ensures an ergonomic feeding position as they do not need to hunch over significantly. This raised cat bowl design can help prevent strain on their neck and spine, and may reduce the risk of back and neck injuries. This can be especially important for older cats and those with arthritis or other mobility issues.

Some cats get “whisker fatigue.” Their whiskers are so sensitive, it feels unpleasant when they hit the rim of the bowl. I put their food on a salad plate.

One of my cats preferred not to bend down to drink water and would drink out of the glass of water on my nightstand. I started bringing up two glasses of water every night; one for Luna and one for me. Mine had a lid.
