Heat Not Working in Your Car or Truck? How to Decide if a Blend Door or Actuator is The Problem

If you're experiencing trouble with your car's heat, whether it's not working on one side or not responding to commands, or you hear a clicking noise coming from behind the dash, it could be a blend door actuator or a blend door itself. In this video, Andy shows you how to diagnose and troubleshoot common car and truck heating problems. He'll take you through the process of locating the blend door actuator, which is attached to the heater box and located underneath the dash, and show you how to replace it. He'll also show you how to check for problems with the blend door itself, which can cause a clicking noise.

Shoot hoping to not have to remove assembly. Heater not responding. Flushed core and replaced HW valve, no go. Blend door actuator is stuffed behind assembly and inside firewall. Have to remove everything just to look at possible core air passage blockage (blower cage was full of leaves) or if door is stuck. Can't get to door fulcrum without removing whole unit. I wonder how common it is to have to do that. I will definitely examine core and evaporator for possible replacement.

Great video thanks. If there is hot air coming out one side and cold air the other - could that be the acuator?

I took an hvac class, and after teaching us how vacuum recovery works, the teacher said "now you definitely can't just use all these techniques and equipment to service your car, thats clearly totally different"

I have a 2010 Ford Edge Limited with a bad driver side Blend Door Actuator. The climate control actuator is near the driver's gas pedal, and of course the passenger's side actuator is behind the glove box. This vehicle does have dual zone. My issue is where is the Driver's Side Blend Door Actuator located at? TY!

Is it true objects like screws or pencil rolling down the dash and falling through the defroster vent under the windshield can wedge a moving part and then break the actuator that way?

Help! i have heat on my 95 Civic but when the vent is set to cold fresh air it is not cool, I can still feel some heat. What should I look at to fix this?

Awesome video so brilliantly explained👌👍
I wonder what is the cause of heating not responding to the command and if you leave it on while driving, it comes on, on it's own accord 🤔 sometimes 15mn or 1hr or not coming on at all during that trip🥶. Also during the summer time, with the heating off, you can feel some warm air coming through the vents 🥵 so so annoying 😑 and yes I almost forgot, the vehicle is Citroen C4. Many thanks 😊 🙏

Convenient video - I got an 05 4runner with four vents going across the dash. The two vents near the center of the dash do not blow heat/AC at all but the outer vents near the doors work perfectly…any thoughts?

Is the recirculation mode button connected to the blend door actuator too? Or is that controlled by another actuator somewhere else?

There's a distinct smell after running the heater, I checked both air filters what else can I do🤔.
It smells like carbon dioxide monoxide of the two.

Couldn’t it be a bad climate control head how do you check that when you go from cold to hot that it’s actually doing what it’s supposed to do?
