For the 2019 Hillsboro Reads keynote address, Hillsboro Public Library invited Amber Case to speak, an internationally recognized design advocate, author, and now researcher at the Institute for the Future. Case studies the interaction between humans and computers and how our relationship with information is changing the way cultures think, act, and understand their worlds. Case spent two years as a fellow at MIT’s Center for Civic Media and Harvard’s Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society, and her TED Talk “We Are All Cyborgs Now,” has received over 1.5 million views.

The 2019 Hillsboro Reads selection is Bored & Brilliant by Manoush Zomorodi. Bored & Brilliant inspires readers to develop a more mindful relationship with technology, especially smartphones, and challenges us to find out what happens when we let ourselves be “bored” rather than engaging in constant digital distractions.
