One of the nicest feeling keyboards I've played; a little longer throws than standard minikeys.

For first time in years i see Yamaha delivering a real cool modern product! Dont get me wrong - Yamaha is always known for great quality, but the cool factor was missing so much. Good for you! Reface DX is what i will be looking for this year!

What ever this presenter is on, I heavily recommend some mindfulness. I got stress by watching this demo ;-)

This is kind of like KX5 but with FM sounds and without the neck and strap. Are the mini keys the type of the KX5 mini keys? They seem to have enough travel, and the velocity response seems very good (I doubt is has aftertouch though, to me the aftertouch on the KX5 was the big selling point). Okay, so is that a DX100 replacement? Quite possibly, with velocity keyboard and effects, that's an improvement on the DX100 (not sure if it's as deep editing-wise as the DX100). Polyphony of the DX100 is I think 8-notes as well. I wonder if synth engines are compatible. Anyway, this Reface DX does not replace the DX7 for me, for obvious form factor. DX7 as well as DX7II and DX7s are keyboard players' instruments, no doubt. (It certainly doesn't replace the DX5 and DX1, either). Anyway, I am not selling just yet my DX7, TX816, DX7IIFD, TX802, SY77, and two SY99's so that I could buy the Reface DX. This keyboard is not for me. But it should be fantastic for teenagers, and for someone who's not necessarily serious with music. I mean, you won't be able to master scales and arpeggios on it. You actually need something like KX88 with weighted keys to really get the full on FM response from the keyboard. But I digress... Lovely little instrument, for sure. Sounds great, what's not to like? But come Yamaha, I feel the DX7 reissue on the horizon, and this is definitely move in this direction. Starting small, built to price withing $499, and then release proper 5-octave keyboard instrument. I am all for it. Although with today's emulation software technology it's going to take some computer power to get something like 16-voices 6-operator synth. I believe the original DX7 actually had dedicated voice chips for each operator, and maybe each voice too. It seems to be hard to do emulate all those electronics with software alone and one processor, as the 8-voice polyphony would indicate on this instrument. But all in all, very nice little instrument. Sounding big indeed. (Big sound, small size? Not sure women would be interested). Very expressive, too, as FM should be. And nice to see Yamaha finally doing FM on something else than just an add-on circuit board (PLG-150DX, which probably goes for about the same price used now the Reface CS will go new). So, great news here. But I am personally waiting for DX7 reissue. Green buttons and all.

Sorry yamahacorporation .... wrong direction... when we saw the reface name and all the teasing you've made about bring back a legacy of mythic synths ...(someone being interviewed talking about cs series)....we wanted to believe so much to "re-face" de good analog synths that are in your on !!you can do it!! see you in 3 years ...

Haha a "REAL fm synthesizer"

FM synths are easy peasy to make. That's not a crowning achievement.

Omg. Yamaha has lost its mind this is truly truly horrible. What are they thinking? Please build REAL INSTRUMENTS AGAIN WITH REAL FULL SIZE KEYS.
