I bought my 7300 right after seeing one up close at Hamvention 2016. This puppy was so easy to learn, I didn't even look at the manual for the first month I had it on the air. While Waiting for it to arrive, I watched every IC-7300 YouTube video I could find. One of these days, I'm going to have to fire up my Yaesu FT-897D just to see if I still remember how to use it!

Monitor is so you can listen to your own audio from your mic. Great for making audio adjustments..if I use it..it's with headphones on or you will get feedback..BE SURE to turn monitor back off when your done doing this...73's

The main function of the auto tune button for CW is not for receiving, what it does is zero beat the transmitter frequency with the exact frequency that the station you're hearing so that when you transmit your within the other station's passband. This is important for CW because the bandwidth is so narrow.

The monitor function allows you to hear your audio while transmitting with earphones on, if you use it without earphones you will get feedback.
It’s not exactly what you sound like on the air, but used to aid in transmit muting with earphones on.

Good intro to the 7300. I will be getting into HF this coming year and have been eyeing this radio. Sure like the idea of the waterfall spectral map - seems it would be so much more convenient than manually scanning the frequencies.

What kind of pen were you using? A capacitive type?

I have a question for you. I have just got the 7300 and I noticed that sometimes on the display I see a faint red word that tends to flicker on and off not all the time but sometimes. It shows up flickering faintly on the meter screen at the top of the screen between the Fil2 box and the SD card icon. It is very faint and it reads either QVF or OVF, Like I said this doesn't happen all the time and just comes and goes on various bands. I can't find anything in the manual on this. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!
