First Net Review | Lots of Coverage Slower Data

I reviewed FirstNet by AT&T and I nearly alwasy had coverage, but it wasn't as fast as i was used to.

We just did a head to head comparison with FirstNet using a Netgear MR1100, FirstNet on an Iphone 12, a regular AT&T account on another cell modem, and a regular Verizon Wireless account on cell modem.
The FirstNet connection was hands down faster than any of the other by a lot.

interesting. I am on 5G and have firstnet. How did you get the sim card ? curious You might not be accessing the total network if they don't have you enrolled as a first responder.

It’s a bit of an odd and hard thing to review. Because the service is not really meant for tik tok or FaceTime. I believe it’s meant for looking for bodies in a mud slide or during a forest fire. Something where you’d need to get as much information as possible but not in perfect speeds.

My agency uses AT&T FirstNet in North Central Pennsylvania and we have terrible service here. The map may show blue as if they cover that area, but rest assured they do not. We cover over a hundred square miles of jurisdiction and have no cell service at all in most of it. Until more towers and service is added in those dead areas. We have since dumped our AT&T FirstNet. Hopefully they cover these areas soon.

You’re missing the point of Firstnet. First net is designed if mass traffic data crashes networks in the event of catastrophic event. Its default is satellite communications then goes to land cables for backup support. First net only shines when all civilian telecommunications are over loaded or compromised.

9:35 iPhone X doesn’t support Band 14, you’re right, but even in iPhone 12, AT&T devices will have no services in places with Band 14-exclusive coverage because Band 14 is the FirstNet-exclusive band. The AT&T network doesn’t operate on Band 14 so devices with an AT&T SIM card just cannot access it whatsoever; only devices with a FirstNet SIM can.

Hmm that is very interesting. My Firstnet experience has been nothing but fantastic! I think your right about your phone not being fully optimized for FN with the SIM card and such. It could also do with how you got firstnet as they have different priority tiers for users depending on your job

If you can use field test mode, it will tell you what band you’re connected to.

Actually having the same experience with first net. Going back to AT&T today unfortunately.

FirstNet has been a Godsend to me over the past few years. Most of the time I get better service on my phone than my internet service provider. My location 28 mile's N. of Detroit MI. has great coverage and seldom see anything less than 4 bars. The unlimited data is greatly appreciated in the time of data caps on all internet service provides in my area.
All that said, the service was even better when I bought a new Samsung 5G phone with the Black FirstNet sim card.

Had a major thunderstorm with tornadoes and mass power outages recently... with that said anyone with at&t or Verizon could not communicate via text or phone call. But if you had first net it was flawless communication.

I can't stand firstnet. I keep dropping calls and service and this was in two big cities!
