Project log cabin | Hand hewing the ridgepole

Not very much progress this time, but it was a lot of fun hand hewing the ridgepole. The pine was too close to our home and the cabin so I had to cut it down anyway.

If the Coronavirus keeps us at home for a some time, I know how to spend my time :)

My brother and my cousin and I are building a traditional log cabin in southern Oregon, US. All hand tools, no chainsaws, no mills, just elbow grease baby. It is so rewarding to see it come to fruition.

Hand hewed logs are super nice I fully agree that they are just beautiful. If I knew I could do a whole cabin that way i would love to do it...my shoulders would never let me get away with it for long though I would think...never know, we will see what happens in the future.

Looking so familiar! I tried once to hand hew logs, but even if I worked all day, I managed to Finnish only one or two logs with just using axes. Making cross cuts first with a chainsaw makes the work much faster and the final result is the same. Just more logs hewed after the days work is done. Keep up the good work!
