Un jour, j’ai écrit à un homonyme sur un réseau social pour lui faire part de mon excitation de trouver quelqu’un de mon âge avec qui je partageais un nom pas si courant et qui semblait, d’après ses post, plutôt sympatoche
Celui-ci m’a simplement répondu un lapidaire « Chelou toi » avant de disparaître de la plateforme.
Mon enthousiasme a laissé place à une certaine perplexité, presque une honte d’avoir pu rêver que cela puisse être mon nouveau meilleur ami, une génance d’avoir pu triper solo... .
De tout ça en est heureusement sorti, et j’en remercie cette personne, une chanson.
Au-delà de l’anecdote, « Chelou toi » parle de l’utopie du village global, d’une communion promise par l’avènement de l’internet des années 2000, qui a plutôt laissé place à une nouvelle solitude (enfin pour moi)

One day, I wrote to a namesake on a social network, excited to find someone my age with whom I shared a not-so-common name and who seemed, based on their posts, pretty friendly.

My enthusiasm quickly turned into confusion, even a bit of shame at having imagined they could become my new best friend—a cringe-worthy moment of having been thrilled all on my own...
Thankfully, something good came out of it, and I owe that person for it: a song.
Beyond the anecdote, "Weird, You" is about the utopia of the global village, a sense of promised connection brought about by the advent of the 2000s internet, which instead has often given way to a new kind of solitude.
