Gun rights and abortion. They’ve done so well because they’ve engineered themselves an electorate that absolutely will not vote for a candidate that opposes the party line on gun rights and abortion, no matter the moral character of a candidate that tows the party line. Using the church to push said agenda is a great tactic because it ties the issue to a religious obligation to vote for the appropriate candidate. Finally, convince the electorate that the opposition holds extreme views regarding gun rights and abortion, and that they are literally evil because of it. All of this to say that these two wedge issues are packaged along with the real agenda, being tax breaks for the rich, and privatization of government services.

Well it's literally the oldest trick in the book. Divide and conquer . Why fight the tribes of the steppe when you can pay one tribe to fight the other for you and they can weaken each other before you destroy them both . The only hope is one day the tribes unite and and drive off the greedy tyrants as if they were the very first tyrants in Mesopotamia .
