How every US county can remove CO2 from the atmosphere

LLNL researchers led a nationwide effort to produce a report called "Roads to Removal,” which charts a path for the U.S. to achieve a net-zero greenhouse gas economy by 2050. With county-level data, it proposes the most effective and cost-efficient methods each region could use to remove a gigaton of CO2 from the atmosphere by 2050.

4th gen mass produced nuclear. Not only can it provide electricity, process heat for industry, and make clean water through desalination, but it can also be used for carbon capture. Furthermore it won't ravage the Earth with a never-ending supply chain for raw materials that go into grid scale batteries, windmills, and photovoltaics.

Sounds like a way to keep profits in oil and gas companies pockets and keep pumping out emissions. Cutting emissions alone can get us to net-zero, additional carbon capture might be helpful, but isn’t needed except for maybe the last 3%.

Direct air capture is possibly the worst form of carbon capture ever from a thermodynamics standpoint. You have to supply at minimum enough energy to offset the entropy of mixing. And that is very large because CO2 is only some 440ppm in concentration. Plant more trees/algae etc and they'll do free CO2 capture for you. Save carbon capture for large scale industrial plants by either post combustion methods or oxy-fuel techniques.

Energy prices have never dropped, if you're concerned about equity pushing for the most energy intensive process, direct air capture, goes directly against those ideological goals.
