I have not seen the full thing, so its hard to say. But they usually dont rise bridges for fun, and ships dont stop on a dime. This could easilly go from bad to way worst.

In reality, the bridge operator is in the right based on the laws. Having to deal with DOT, they don't mess around with their rules

While yes the operator would be in the right they would be in their right to demand it as extenuating circumstances would allow them to take control and use it as an viable excuse as to why they acted how they did

A lady died earlier this year because a bridge operator didn't check the bridge for pedestrians and the 67 yr old woman fell through the crack of the bridge and landed on the cement below.

I agree with thr man and if i was in his situation i wouldve done the same thing. Protocols like this are put in place for a reason and whether you understand it or not they need to be followed so the fewest damages (to machinery, people etc) happen. The worker didnt have the authorisation to go against protocol so he didnt and waited for his supervisor who would be better at assessing the situation. As others in the comments have said, by lowering the bridge it could cost countless more lives due to ships crashing. I understand that the firefighters were trying to save someone's life, but at mimimum they shouldve respected the worker for following protocol as they had no idea why the protocol was in place. They didnt even consider that the protocol, which did have a plan for these situations, existed to cause the least harm and just saw someone in their way. Any EMS whether thats firefighters, paramedics or police shouldnt be able to barge in when they dont have all the information like in this situation

Firefighters can’t just hand out legal immunity. The bridge controller was doing everything within his training, and had every right to escalate the situation by reporting it.

Those bridges don't go up just for fun, it's to let ships pass through. If the bridge guy lowered the bridge like the firefighters asked then it could've hit a ship. The situation would've been 10x worse if that happened and the firefighters wouldn't have cared and the bridge guy would've been fired or worse.

I think it was Clinton who visited Europe somewhere, there was a bridge that was scheduled to open as he was leaving for the airport, and for security reasons they asked that the bridge would not be up. The authorities for the bridge refused to do so cause ship would pass through at the same time, so the authorities didn't allow for Clinton to pass, and I remember the american delegation said that it was marvelous, that they showed them how the bridge basically went up like that. I can't remember the nation in question, but I think it might have been Tower Bridge? But I am unsure, been trying to find the clip for a while now XD

If this was a real life situation with that bridge operator, if the guy died would be charged with murder

Technically by refusing to assist he would be then be the reason for the mans death therefore they could change him with attempted murder. But tv show so meh

Have the guy arrested when he refuses to comply.
