SSJ has been short for Super Saiyan for over 2 decades now, but why is SSJ short for Super Saiyan and not SS?

Edited by: me :)

The last thing you want is a guy turning blonde with blue eyes and saying "This is my SS form"

As a German, I might have a idea why the western didn't name it SS😅

In Germany, it goes "Super Saiyajin", so I NEVER questioned this abbreviation.

S - Super
S - Saiyan
J - Just accept it, don't be overthinking

Never ask Goku what he did between 1939 and 1945

The Spanish fandom added it.
In the South America dub, the Super Saiyajin was called "Super Saiyajin".

SSJ is originated from Mexico, the dubbed version in Spanish makes it so that when abbreviated it includes the J at the end. It became popular in the early 2000’s when videos of DB, DBZ, and DBGT would come out on YouTube and Mexican viewers would comment wanting to see or explain the power scales of SSJ and the ideas of what SSJ5- SSJ100 would look like. For an DB veterans you remember DBZ rap.

The japanese not adding the J and the US adding the J is the most post WW2 meme ever

in Brazil, we call it Super Sayajin and the series' success was massive in the 2000's. Maybe some members of this fandom were brazilian or from the close countries.

If it’s not broken, don’t fix it. Kinda fits IMO

Why doesn’t the west call the blonde haired, blue eyed super men the SS? We may never know.

A cool thing is that in portuguese, they kept the "super saiyaJIN" similar to the batman animated séries where they translated "gotham city" to "city 'gotham city' "

Original Western Fandom is Latin America, and here it’s pronounced “Super Saiyajin”

SS Goku evokes an early 1940s germany vibe...

I am brazilian, and since we call it "Super Saiyajin" here it was never questioned.

It could be a combination of those two: People who simply watched the Japanese original and non-native English-speakers who watched their regions' dubs that used the original Sayajin, like Latin America and Germany among others.

What's weird is the English dub not calling them Sayajin. Having to make them English-sounding has that jelly-donut energy.

Its actually cause dragonball came first to latin american and super saiyan was pronounce Super Saiyajin in spanish while saiyajin is put in sentances as a single word, in spanish, emphasis is placed on the JIN and the J adds a kinda vocal third word of sorts so when we spell it is Super Saiya Jin, so we shortened it to SSJ cause thats how we spelled it Super-Saiya-Jin, some even spell it SuperSaiya as one big thing and separate the -Jin when spelling it.
