Wow! Right on the money.I wish my wife understood this. I can't even count the number of times I've been told that I have to earn her respect. i was hammered with disrespect this morning and I'm still having my coffee. Younger guys, this is not going to change after you've been married a few years. Take it from a survivor. I spent my whole career working to provide for my family and provide a decent retirement to take care of her after I'm gone. But that doesn't matter to her. She only sees the things that I do "wrong" like put utensils in the wrong drawer. Or take too long to answer a question that demands some thought before answering. The problem is during the courtship phase it's easy to interpret her actions as showing respect. But when the ring goes on, the pretense stops. So one stays married because it's the right thing to do and one wishes it'll get better. Trust me, it will never get better.

I'm so sorry Gentlemen, I want to say gently that for many years I didn't realize that the way I behaved towards my husband was disrespectful. I tried to give him what I needed, I thought I was loving well but thank God I finally realized that I was treating him like a child instead of a man. My husband aaked me to read the book "love and respect" and he says that I got much better and when I started to give him respect he started being more loving. I know that I'm the girl in the relationship but I think things have gotten much better. I didn't know how to respect as a act of love, truly it wasn't a intentional behavior I didn't know how to think and behave the way he needs. Now I have cut out sarcastic comments, I encourage our children to treat their things with respect because their father provided them and works hard for them and I teach our children to behave with respect towards their father. I praise him for the way he loves me and his position at work. It can get better.

She is exactly right. This is the number one reason men spend so much time at work. For me, it was the only place where I could receive positive feedback, respect and felt like I was worth something. If a man cannot find this at home, he will fill that vacuum somewhere else, and that has the potential to be a very treacherous alternative.
