I think Lawyers do well in Politics largely because they are well versed and practiced in rhetoric. Their whole job as a Lawyer is to make arguments for/against things, even things they may actually hold the opposite view on. This is also why I think they are easily corrupted, or at least swayed to different positions, by money, peer pressure, and other things.

It doesn't necessarily have to be technical experts and engineers that run the government. In my version of it, you would have economists, statisticians, environmental policy experts, and a whole host of non-engineering professional running the government. They would sit on committees similar to the committees that we have in Congress right now. Although there would be partisan debate, especially over things like economics, at least the people on the committee would know what they are talking about. I would rather have unelected technocrats who at least know what they're talking about when it comes to actual policy, rather than politicians who can recite talking points but who don't know the substance behind what they're saying. Just because you can be eloquent and relate to voters doesn't mean that you should be making policy decisions.

The existence of technocracy highlights the flaws of democracy

To be honest, this is the first time I've ever even heard about this. It is interesting though, a technocracy would be like having several moving parts working together that are actually able to accomplish something. Not like the current state of our government in the United States like now.

Let me correct something:

Lots of politicians are *failed* or *incompetent* lawyers.

Otherwise, they'd be practicing law and making more money than they could as a politician. This is something I identify as a HUGE problem in our democracies, we're being governed by people who are only doing the job because they aren't good enough at their actual job

You know a show is going to go a fun direction when it starts out “let’s talk about Freudian slips”.

With how government functions these days I’m surprised there isn’t another technocratic movement like in the Great Depression

Governance isn't an engineering problem. It's a people problem. And engineers just aren't that great with people, which is probably why they became engineers.

lawyers don't let things slips, they make good front men to represent points/ ideas /people. politics 2018 they have teams 20 people to each politician. thinktanks, contacts at a click and keystroke. trump is an example of a technocrat, but he slips up all the time making an example of the downside to having someone who some might consider a real estate and business expert, even if that's in the failure of those businesses. on kyle kulinski's show he watches right wing businessmen appear on fox shows, and gets to laugh at the dumb shit they say.

times have changed politics 1800s definitely had more physicians and economists in the white house forefront, they probably still exist in the backrooms in politics 2018.

I’m just saying if you know legal gray areas as a politician are you more likely to avoid them?

We don't need a technocracy. That wouldn't 'fix' anything. People trained in law, business, and public administration in these positions makes sense and is appropriate. They should consult with experts in various fields as needed so that they can make informed decisions. As far as I can tell, the concentration of power (and wealth) is the FMP.
