On our way to shoot our NAB 2013 coverage this year, we decided to shoot, edit and upload an entire episode of DVTV right out of one small camera bag. The Tamrac Zuma 32 bag has an amazing amount of space for your iPad or Macbook Air along with a small mirrorless camera. We used the Sony NEX-7 to shoot with and the iPad 3 to edit. While there were some compromises we had to make, such as no color grading and no lower thirds overlays, the episode turned out pretty well. Take a look at all the gear we used below.

Sony NEX-7:

Sony 16mm f2.8 pancake lens:

Sony 35mm f/1.8:

Sony 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3:

Apple iPad:

Pinnacle Studio:

iPad Camera Connection Kit:

SanDisk 16GB SDHC Class 10:

Rode Videomic Pro:

Tamrac Zuma 32 Bag:

Zipshot Tripod:

Samson Go Mic USB Microphone:

Klipsch S4 Headphones:

They are two very different cameras. The NEX 7 is a stills camera first (and a very good one at that). Plus the file sizes with the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera will make you burn through memory cards very quick.

This is why I love living in vegas, once I'm out of school tomorrow... NAB the rest of the day!

We shot our NAB coverage on our FS700 with the Rode Reporter mic and edited it on Premiere with our laptops. This was just a test to see how much we could do with just an iPad and NEX 7 and Rode Videomic Pro.

Yeah! I'm really digging the small package they got everything into! I just wish my NEX-5n had an audio input.

1. I use 16GB San Disk Class 10 cards. We only needed one for this video.
2. Pinnacle Studio
3. Camera connection kit for the iPad

Links added to the description of the video. Thanks!

I was NOT expecting that little tripod to do that. Haha, pretty cool.

We have one and use it for interviews with the NEX 7, but it's very difficult to manually sync audio to video on the iPad. Not impossible...but difficult.

BTW Rode is an Australian Company. We do actually come up with some good gear every so oft.

I've seen a lot of people angry about the video on the NEX 7 but there are alot of cameras that overheat and have time limits. When I committed to the NEX system for stills AND video work I bought the NEX 5 and a NEX VG 20. Work great together but useless on their own. Solution: buy the right equipment for the job needed.

I am going to be at the show on Tuesday. Maybe I will see you around. Have you tried the new Rode mic for the IPhone.

Just get a microsoft surface and you get great processing power+any program that you regularly use on your desktop

if it's anything like the nex 5 you're asking a lot to film for more than 30-45 min consecutively. They're not really designed for that in my opinion
