Hong Kong’s food safety watchdog has urged residents to stop panic buying salt following Japan's release of treated waste water from the Fukushima nuclear plant. Some residents scrambled to get their hands on salt, leaving store shelves bare. They believed salt would protect them against radiation, and also worried future salt products may be radioactive. Experts have said neither is the case. Hong Kong's largest supermarket chains ParknShop and Wellcome said they have a stable supply of salt.
