Hong Kong’s food safety watchdog has urged residents to stop panic buying salt following Japan's release of treated waste water from the Fukushima nuclear plant. Some residents scrambled to get their hands on salt, leaving store shelves bare. They believed salt would protect them against radiation, and also worried future salt products may be radioactive. Experts have said neither is the case. Hong Kong's largest supermarket chains ParknShop and Wellcome said they have a stable supply of salt.

I didn't think they were buying it to protect against radiation, as they were more afraid of salt becoming contaminated with radiation, from Japan releasing the waste water into the sea.

They should be more worried about the air quality.

I thought people already learned their lesson after wasting money buying tissue papers pre-covid time. Clearly there's no cure for stupidity.

are they buying salt supply for the next 200 years??? Don't they know the ocean is connected? Are we going to see millions of HKers with high blood pressure problem in the next years?

It's iodine that's needed. Not enough in salt

China was the only country that banned seafood from Fukushima. so there was a sign at Japanese restaurant saying, dear Chinese, we serve food from Fukushima. Chinese got angry and thought it was discrimination because it was just notifying only for Chinese customers.

That's the same as Octopus blindly eats their own legs.

Ummm….I’m fairly sure it’s about the availability of „non- radioactive salt“. Either way it’s nonsense.

Sometimes you have to realize how easily the general population can be fooled by mass misinformation 😂It's the same as when the world started panic buying toilet paper during the quarantine period 😂

How insalting telling us not to buy salt. ❤

Salt with iodine, supplies the thalamus with it's needed trace element iodine.

This pervents the radio active isotopes of iodine from doing damage there...

This is very well know science.

The reason the "expert" is not addressing this well know fact is because he would have to make a specific claim about what is and what is not in the "treated" water.

And since we all know it is unsafe.

He wants to make the most ambiguous argument possible, so his does not get caught in a lie.
