Learn about the four different types of green garnets: green grossular garnet, tsavorite garnet, demantoid garnet and mail garnet. Tsavorite can come in vivid, medium to medium dark, and bluish green to yellow. Lighter, moderately saturated green color stones are called green grossular garnet. Demantoid is a rare and highly valuable gem and was once very popular among Russian nobility. The Mali garnet is the most recent addition, discovered in Africa in the 1990s. Garnet color in green is rarer than the red varieties. It requires rare rock chemistries and conditions for green garnets to form naturally
