I am just stunned by how many people think you should just turn a blind eye to all of the evil in the Bible. The Bible should at least be held to the standard that it holds us to.

Those who find the truth provocative' are part of the problem.
Religions regard their holy books as required reading. Then use terms like 'interpretation' when they mean relentless cherry-picking.
I imagine many atheists have read Dawkins, etc, but it's certainly not compulsory.
