BEST RIG & BAIT For Mackerel (SURPRISE SHARK!) Pier Fishing

Learn how to catch mackerel from a fishing pier and the secret bait to use. In this video, I head out to The Huntington Beach Pier in Southern California to do some mackerel fishing. I use a sabiki rig with size 10-14 hooks. One of my friends that was out fishing caught a shark at the end of the night! The hot hooks are the best sabikis! Also shrimp works the best I feel I always have best luck with shrimp! And then using a float works really well too!

A few days ago, I was on the Old Glory out of H&M Landing and I saw some mackerel at the dock, shortly before leaving port. I tried throwing a coltsniper at them, but the jig was too big. I had a sabiki, but decided not to use it, since I’d be fishing for tuna, and it would just be a waste to catch those mackerel. It turns out that those mackerel pecking at my coltsniper ended up being the only action I got on the whole trip!

Hate to say it but those macs are much smaller than they used to be. When I was fishing there in the 80's, they were routinely 3-4x that size

I was catching makerel at the pier until my 2 sabiki setups got tangled together and by the time the tackle shop opened (on the pier) i was already leaving
