NASA Astronaut Candidate Class of 2021

NASA announced its 2021 astronaut candidate class on Dec. 6, 2021. The 10 candidates, announced in an event at Ellington Field near NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston are: U.S. Air Force Maj. Nichole Ayers, Christopher Williams, U.S. Marine Corp Maj. (Ret.) Luke Delaney, U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Jessica Wittner, U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Anil Menon, U.S. Air Force Maj. Marcos Berríos, U.S. Navy Cmdr. Jack Hathaway, Christina Birch, U.S. Navy Lt. Deniz Burnham, and Andre Douglas.

NASA’s new astronaut candidates will begin about two years of training in January 2022, after which they could be assigned to missions performing research on the International Space Station, launching from American soil on spacecraft built by commercial companies, and launching on Artemis missions to the Moon on NASA’s new Orion spacecraft and Space Launch System rocket.

Congratulations to all 10 candidates and a special one to my nephew Jake Hathaway who has had this dream since childhood. Instead of gift as a child he would ask for money & save it so he could take flying lessons at the age of 15/16. When he became an eagle scout he wrote that he would become an astronauts and walk on mars/moon. When he entered Annapolis Navy academy he already had his pilot license ahead of most. He then dedicated he life to make his dream come true. We are all proud of your accomplishments.

They launched DART a short while ago and now one of the new astronauts is a drilling engineer. What's next, NASA buys and retrofits a few cybertrucks for some undisclosed specialized tasks which they name Armadillo One and Armadillo Two?
