Who Really Destroyed Nordstream (and why it matters)

Nord Stream pipelines apparently suffered near-simultaneous leaks and it's not clear who is responsible. Is it Russia trying to intimidate the west or the US trying to bait NATO?

You see, comrade pipeline simply fell out of window after thinking unpatriotic thoughts.

I’m feeling sorry for those underwater welders risking their lives because of these childish games.

"Only about 70 miles deep", quite the difference from 70 meters :)

For those worrying that contact with salt water will destroy these pipes immediately, I just read part of the NordStream "description of project" (part 3), which details the commissioning procedure. As part of it, these pipes have been flooded with salt water, pressure-tested, emptied and dried.

So they are designed to withstand a certain amount of contact with salt water without damage, and there likely will be time to repair them.

Does anyone else remember reports of a “fishing vessel” loitering over the transatlantic fibre optic cables off Ireland? For some reason I thought we already knew there was potential to cut connections... I guess this is stepping up the ante. 😔

0:28 Correction; they can't, not easily anyway. Gazprom - which is a Russian state owned company - is under contract that requires them to deliver X amount of gas to Europe, sanctions or not. If they don't deliver that minimum they risk being fined. Before, they turned down the gas and said it was due to damages and/or the need for repairs. However, Siemens - the company in charge of maintenance to the Nordstream pipes - had proven that these claims of damages and repairs are nonsense, thus taking away Gazprom's excuse. Now with these pipes blown up, Gazprom has a valid excuse to not meet the requirements of the contract.

Two nitpicks: there was a fourth leak found this morning, on the second line of NS2 - so all four are knocked out.

Second: Sikorski is very much NOT a serious person

It's interesting how this video lays both Russia an the US as the probable culprits but only lay out the latter as "implausible".
A lesson in corporate propaganda.

04:50 Correction: According to a report by Aljazera the pipes might never be repaired as once salt water gets in and begins erosion, repairs turn into replacement.

Nord steam 1 and 2 have both two tubes each. When I heard that 3 of the 4 tubes had been destroyed
but only 1 Nord Stream 2 tube remained, it became clear that this should put pressure on the German government to approve the remaining Nord Stream 2 tube.
But the last and 4. tube was also destroyed.
At least nobody can now demand to open Nord Stream 2.
When the gas escapes and salt water gets in, the tubes begin to rust from the inside.

As a German, I can assure you that Germany is in "Sherlock mode" at the moment. So many assumptions in the comment sections that everyone can easily serve their own prejudices (either towards the US or towards Russia).

Wait, can they really "easily fix the leak in a few days"? I heard elsewhere that once the pressure on the pipes drop and seawater gets in its basically condemned. So which one is it?

Anyone here after the Seymour Hersh bombshell?

Seeing how close Baltic Pipe is, I’m now wondering if that was the intended target and blowing up Nordstream was just a massive fuckup

There was even a 4th leak found ptobably after you finished the video.

2:40 "70 miles deep"
5:45 "warning Europe that if they continue supporting Europe"

Was he reading the teleprompter with his brain in neutral? 😅

US in February: We will bring an end to Nord Stream 2 if Russia invades Ukraine.

September: We didn't do it.

I think its highly unlikely that Russia show its ability/willingness of destroy pipes by destroying one of their own lol.
Whoever did this, only shows they don't want this war ends so quickly.

Watch the Nordstream bomber turn out to be a completely unrelated third party, like some guy who's angry that his wife left him for a gas industry executive.

Frankly it's 2022. I wouldn't be surprised if Cthulhu was rising up ruining pipelines at this point.
