Correction. There IS regen in D but it's a pretty sophisticated system. Basically, it's auto-regen and it's always on. It uses the sensors in the front and GPS data (to know if there's a curve coming up or what have you) and if there's a car in front, it slows down as if it were on adaptive cruise control and it recuperates the energy "lost". At least it's how it works on the ID3 in Europe!

It's pathetic that you have to apologize to Tesla fans for giving a good review to another brand. they don't realize how they drive people away from Teslas. VW, Polestar, Ford Mach E, they all know how to build quality desirable cars. The ID.4 will draw in customers who, for whatever reason, would never seriously consider a Tesla.

Unfortunately a lot of Tesla fans aren't true EV fans.. hopefully that changes a little with good EVs coming out like this VW

Try to leave the drive selector in D. It seems VW isn’t doing a great job of communicating this to folks, but in D mode the ID.4 is using a sort of intelligent regen braking strategy. It will automatically add regen braking if you’re approaching another car, or a roundabout, for example. Otherwise it coasts to save energy. I’ve been a big fan of one-pedal driving, but after seeing some videos and literature about the really cool things happening with the ID.4/ID.3 regen in D mode, I can’t wait to try it out!

Hello Kyle . Thanks for bringing the review.
One request is to please tell whether the rear center has hump or whether it is flat floor in all your ev car review.
For ID4 and MachE, if possible, next time can you please analyse the rear bench / seat space specially with a kid car seat ? Also does the middle seat have isofix points?

My Model Y is due for delivery in 9 days, but the ID.4 looks great. Tesla's competition will be very strong in the coming months and years. Well done, VW.

Kyle, great 👍 job on this drive along review .. I am thinking about getting this for my daughter .. however will have to be the AWD version..

also only Tesla Fan boys would have some type of issue just ignore them .. I own two Tesla thus far and still own a model 3 and we all know 4+ years ago the only real nice EV was Tesla so most of us get it not because there was many great choices but only because there was only one.. now we have a ton more better choices that fits well with different lifestyles.. 2021 for the win! ... anyways ID4 looks real nice 👍 can’t wait to check it out in person ..

Great, Kyle! have a reservation for the AWD Pro S. I chose the Dusk Blue / Lunar Gray colors, but may change exterior color. This VW will replace a ‘14 BMW X1 sDrive. Will keep another ICE car for those times when escaping Hurricanes from South Florida (no time looking for chargers in rural south).

This car aims at the demographic I want it too. Quiet, lower premium-ish and properly priced. Just the right balance for mass marketing. This car is the jack of all trades thats needed to get the most folks in seats of electrics, not luxury/performance/compliance cars.

Now all they have to do is advertise it to the market to get the word out and we're golden. Talking YouTube ads that reach everyone. Not just one single commercial during the middle of the Superbowl that you never see again.

Before I went to Tesla, I was a VW guy. I really like how their cars felt premium without the premium price. The ID 4 is a good looking CUV, they did a good job with it. Compared to my Tesla, i think I would miss the power and the lack of frunk and deep storage trunk compartment, as well as the infotainment system.

I'm impressed with the ID.4. Will it support over-the-air updates? And did the product planning guys say anything about possibly offering a heat pump option in the U.S.?
