Along with ensuring your beach allows you to take sand as others have mentioned, it’s also important to make sure your paint doesn’t have any toxic substances in it if you plan on rinsing your brushes with seawater or dipping your canvas directly into the sand like in this video. The last thing you want to do is introduce harmful chemicals into the sand and ocean just because you didn’t consider your methodology.

If you don’t know how to check whether your paint is eco friendly, generally _acrylics aren’t the best_ since they solidify into a plastic, while *gouache, tempera, or watercolors* are all okay. If you really want acrylic paint and don’t mind spending a little extra, _M. Graham_ sells eco friendly paints of _all kinds_ you can use for any projects.

If all you have is regular acrylic, that’s okay, you just have to be a little more careful. Make sure not to dip your canvases into the sand, keep a towel or something under your canvas as you paint to prevent any accidental paint spill, and bring any paint water home with you to dispose of safely. To dispose of your paint water you’ll want to pour it into some cat litter or old coffee grounds, let it absorb, and throw it away. If you don’t have either of those things available, tape a coffee filter onto another container and filter out the paint from the water 2-3 times before throwing away the trash filter and dumping the water down the drain.

Hopefully this helps someone who wants to do this, but in a responsible way!

This was actually my childhood. We would get the canvases, paint a pattern that made them all connect and then decorate with our own theme. Add in a photo and hand print, they where like best friend paintings 😂
