When I was little my mother would open a kitchen window & leave a bowl of water for our ancestors to wash their hands & food & drink for them to enjoy on all Souls.I loved her Barm Brac the excitement of finding charms in a slice!!The caulcannon picking out coins in greaseproof paper from it’s midst.Bonfires, Halloween costumes & masks, bobbing for apples, doing the rounds with cries of “help the Halloween party”.Bashing open coconuts & cracking open hard-nuts only at this time of year.”Get yer bangers”on Moore Street when a Garda turned he’s back.Sparklers like a thousand stars fallen from the night the wonder of it all etched in my mind.
