Anime - Genre Bite - Mecha Anime

Genre Bite is a show where i have a look at some of the different genres we see in Anime. In this episode i will be looking at mecha anime.

It's funny that giant robot anime is what people think about when they hear "anime" but most anime fans I've encountered don't seem to watch it.

Mecha anime is what brought me into anime.  Macross and Gundam primarily.

I'm going to be watching the entire 3 seasons of Robotech soon and I've started watching Eureka 7. Something about the mech genre that has caught my interest over the last few years is the variety of toys and figures you can get for them. I really wanna invest in some high end Gunpla this year at some point

Recently watched the Patlabor OVA series and the first two movies -- really good examples of the versatility of the mecha genre.

I always preferred Super Robot shows, Lol.
Definitely recommend Shin Mazinger Z or Mazinkaiser SKL

Mobile Police Patlabor (First OVA, movies, TV series, second OVA),
Top wo Nerae! Gunbuster (Hideaki Anno's directorial debut, much closer to my heart than NGE),
Super Dimension Fortress Macross (the original series, then the movie DYRL.)

Dang XD Evangelion didn't get nearly much as exposure as I was hoping for. It basically revolutionised not just the mecha genre, but anime on a whole (as well as getting a lot of exposure in West). Good wrap up though, well put.

would real live action shows like transformers power rangers & voltron under the same banner just not a cartoon so it's not anime
