RoboCop first appeared in 1987 with the Paul Verhoeven's Sci-Fi / Action classic 'RoboCop.'
The sequel RoboCop 2 followed in 1990, rejecting the originally drafted 'RoboCop 2; The Corporate Wars' in the process.
RoboCop 3 would then see release in 1993 as the franchise failed to build upon the potential of the original.
It was confirmed in 2018 that 'RoboCop Returns' was in the works and will serve as a direct sequel to the 1987 film, ignoring the sequels and the remake, as well as the two live action TV spin-offs. As of June 2019, the script, which will be based on an original story from the writers of the 1987 film, Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner, was still being written. Neill Blomkamp was originally signed on to direct the film but left the project, and Abe Forsythe was later selected to direct

Corporate Wars sounds like a fresh take even now. Pushing Robocop forward in time where the US is basically a giant mall makes sense. The idea that villains have given citizens the veneer of safety while hiding the despair under a coat of paint is brilliant. The only issue is Robocop should have been given an upgrade to fit the facade.

I was 13 when I saw RoboCop in the theater in 1987 and I thought it was very telling of the future. I believe America will experience a lot of what we see in this franchise and some of it has already begun.

I initially wasn't big at all on the Corporate Wars script when I read it for the first time. But this video helped me understand it a little better and now I think it would have ultimately been a much more interesting sequel than the RoboCop 2 we eventually got. And it is really said that Blomkamp's RoboCop Returns didn't happen because he actually had passion for the character and for the franchise. Unlike Jose Padila and the writers of the remake. I hope Abe Forsythe can bring the same level of passion and care to the new RoboCop film if it ever does get off the ground. Nice job with the video and thank you for your cooperation.

I'd simply go back to the Verhoeven original and sequelize this 30+ years in the future. I'd show a giant OCP that controls everything over a renewed part of Detroit while the rest of the city is left to rot. Dubai meets the most rotten places of L.A./Chicago/New York.

They should make a ROBOCOP movie that comes out when the Gordie Howe bridge is complete and it should be a story that takes place in Detroit and Windsor.... This is an amazing franchise and it's cool it takes place in a prominent U.S. city rarely shown on screen!

*FUN FACT*

Arnold Schwarzenegger was originally going to play the title role in RoboCop (1987), but problems with the costume caused producers to drop the idea. After Schwarzenegger saw "RoboCop", he said that he loved the movie and wanted to work with director Paul Verhoeven. When he and Verhoeven heard about "Total Recall", they decided to work on that.
