I heard long ago that Madonna was the same age as her mother was when she passed and so she (Madonna) was afraid this would might be her last album, so she made it her best. I'm glad she did and that she's still around. A genius work.

Quick & moving, with a lively melody, it's one of the strongest themes of the album.
Madonna said:
"It was really based on my life, factually speaking ... about a dysfunctional relationship, sadomasochistic relationship that can not end." 
However, Madonna drew the limit on self-sacrifice, saying that "would never stay in a violent relationship to death".

Re-discovered it after 25 years.
Try it with your headphones on - as if your best girlfriend tells you the story of her life. Love the drive, the narrative, the tension. If there were no Like a Prayer album, one would  have to record it.
