North Yorkshire Moors Railway 'Annual Steam Gala' 2024. All footage filmed on Friday 27th, Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th September 2024.
The NYMR held their ever-popular 'Annual Steam Gala' over the weekend of 26th-29th September with a total of eleven engines in steam over the course of the event. Unfortunately the visiting lineup had been plagued with issues during the run up to the gala with a planned fourth guest never materialising & 4079 "Pendennis Castle" being a no-show due to a failure as a result of water carry over into the cylinders. Thankfully, the 'Castle' was duly replaced by 4953 "Pitchford Hall" from the Epping & Ongar Railway which joined already announced 34028 "Eddystone" from the Swanage Railway. The final 'visitor', 2253 "Omaha", was making a return to the Moors as a permanent resident. The gala was one of the last chances to see "Omaha" coal-fired before it will be converted to oil-firing this winter.
An intensive timetable was put in place over the course of the weekend with including full-ine services, goods trains, double-headers, shunting demonstrations & evening services. In addition to these, '9F' No. 92134 would find itself on banking duties between Grosmont & Goathland bringing back the days when '9Fs' would've been seen climbing the infamous Lickey Bank. To go along with this theme, the loco was renumbered to No. 92079, which was one of the engines that was used on the Lickey, and fitted with a headlamp above the smokebox.
Editing together this video proved to be a challenge so I have decided to base the video around Saturday's timetable & allocations with shots from Friday & Sunday inserted where appropriate. This has resulted in some subtle differences between shots such as weather and stock which I apologise for.
