Jet boat start up and take off

Funny cause I've never seen a jet boat with a V drive in it 🤔

Jet boats move when you turn them on. They are direct drive. That is a V-drive. Also dead giveaway is the output for the crank faces the bow.

A jet boat has a pump that sucks water from the bottom of the hull and blasts it out at alarmingly high pressure. A V-drive boat on the other hand has a gearbox facing towards the bow and has a shaft coming off the gearbox and through the boat hull and has a prop connected to it. The V-drive layout requires the engine to be mounted backwards like on a WWII V12 powered prop plane like the P-51s, P-40s and P-38s, and Spitfires. While the jet layout allows for the accessory drive belts to face the bow end of the boat while the flywheel is connected to the jet drive which is bolted to the transom. This is a V-drive boat due to the gearbox mounted at the flywheel side of the engine which is mounted backwards as on said WWII V12 powered prop planes.

I remember the one we had when I was a kid. It was called Sun Dance One. It was yellow with a ton of metal flake. The name was Sun, because it shined like crazy in the sun. Dance because it always looked like it was dancing on the water. One, because it was our first jet boat. And the last, , Dam. LOL. I remember riding in it and as we were flying across the lake I turned my head to the side and couldn't turn it back forward. The power while taking off was insane.

That is not a jet boat. It is a V-drive. Quite different than a jet drive.
