Based on the Hopi Creation Story, I think the Ankh or life symbol represent earth's tilt in space, our short window where life can survive here. If you look at your compass, there's one on your smart phone under utility application, draw a line from the 60 degree mark - the summer solstice - to the center, then a line from the 120 degree mark - the winter solstice to the center. From the center draw a line to the west to the 270 degree mark or the equinox. The sun travels back and forth from the winter solstice to the summer solstice so add a curved line from the 60 to the 120.
