I agree with you. Forrest was wrong when he told Lily that she is “special” and actually made a choice.

This is because many world theories would say that they were not actually watching the version of the universe which she shot Forrest. Instead, they watched a different future reality, and the one where she threw the gun was achieved.

It’s actually a huge brain twister, but her throwing the gun just proves Lindens theory, and did not falsify determinism. She did not make a choice, but she threw the gun AND shot Forrest as well. Him telling her that she actually acted out a free will, was an error on his part of not understanding the programming that went into giving them a clear picture of the future.

Why did the future stop being predicted after this moment? This is a hard question. But I don’t believe Forrest got it right. It is not because Lily disobeyed Deus, but because they would alter reality by creating alternate realities within Deus, which they now exist. In order for Deus to now calculate the future, it would have to include them within its own system. Which would lead to an infinity, as Deus would have to be predicting what Deus would do, what Deus would do ad infinitum. But now that they are removed from the outside world, I’m sure the machine will start to work fine again. As the variable that created this incident is no longer in play.
