Through out your professional career, there will be a time where you will have an opportunity to go to a networking event. Whether it's for recruiting (to find a new job opportunity) or to just meet new professionals in an industry, networking events are something you can not avoid. But what if you are an introvert that hates networking events? Don't worry I got you covered. I'm also an introvert that has been in working for 6 years now and I was forced into many networking events. I have many tips that I have learned along the way. Everything from how to approach people, what topics to talk about and how to eject from a conversation! Hope this is helpful : )

🌊 Hi everyone! I'm Mika Kim and I'm currently a senior software engineer at a FAANG company! In my prior life I used to be a consultant at Deloitte. I created this youtube channel t share my experiences from the tech industry, and consulting. I used to and still use youtube a LOT to gain info on fields of interests and I hope these videos do the same for you too! 😊

Networking as an introvert, oh man, thats like attending a party when youd rather binge-watch a series alone! 🥴 I used to be in the same boat with case interviews too. Tried DIY-ing with no luck, until The Thinksters showed me the ropes. They didnt just give cookie-cutter answers, they taught me to structure cases like a pro, really boosted my confidence. With their guidance, I was able to snag an offer from Bain. Back when I got help, they had these free sessions, no clue if thats still a thing though.

Thank you Mika for such helpful insight. My first networking event was really intimidating due to which I missed many upcoming networking events.
After watching this video, I realized the best way to cope with these kind of situations is to face them. Thanks a lot for such informative videos.

So interesting how everyone mistake social anxiety for being an introvert. Introvert is just that you loose social battery faster. Even extroverts can be shy from events like this. Im an introvert, but I can still be outgoing. People should just name it how to start networking when you are nervous. Everyone can be nervous with facing something new. Thank you for the tips though, going to my first netwoking event, but also alone😮‍💨

thanks for your tips Mika! it also helped a lot to relate to what you are saying once you've mentioned that you have a script, practiced a couple of times and the video actually went through post-production as you seem really confident on camera :)

can we get an update if waterloo cs is still worth it? currently an Ontario gr 12 student with a 99 avg and if I get in I want to know if waterloo cs or cs in general in still worth it especially due to the current discussions surrounding a recession/tech layoffs. mostly in the long term i will want to try and start my own business but i think a key step would be getting some solid work experience first so I'm really not sure if I'd be able to get that. also i want to move to the us one day, i don't want to stay in canada.

The way I screamed when she said Waterloo 😭 my only reason for being here at uw is for the networking opportunities I can get here…..it’s my first one this Saturday and I’m freakin out because I’m genuinely terrified 😭

Could you suggest some best books to read for Marketing Yourself in job search and workplace to stand out from the rest of competition ? As engineer fresher in consulting or general..

How can you be introvert but know all these tricks at the same time ? Supposedly your shyness stops you from talking to people and finding out all these tips by yourself...

You are an introvert yet you talk and act like an extrovert
