The tough childhood of embattled Olympic boxer Imane Khelif has come to light after her 46-second victory sparked an international gender row amid a frenzy of misinformation.

Khelif, of Algeria, overcame severe odds to compete at her second Olympic Games despite having been forced to sell bread on the streets as child in order to pursue her boxing dream in a “conservative” environment that insisted the sport was only for men.

The boxer has faced new challenges over the past year because of what has been described as a “medical condition”.

She grew up in an.extremely strict muslim village where only boys were allowed to play outside and girls had to stay inside yet she somehow was playing soccer in the street with the boys 🤔 > and she comes from a very strict muslim country but didn't have to wear a hijab like all the other muslim female athletes at the Olypic games plus the muslim male athlete lifting her up and carrying her (to congratulate her winning), is forbidden between men and women within their culture >there are just too many contradictions to think about

It is actually a tricky one. As I understand it, Khelif is a female with female genitalia etc and who was a little girl in Algeria and grew up there. So she is not a fake. but … who is xy chromosome - So male in a chromosome level and has therefore benefited enormously from the surge of testesterone that goes with that. In track and field this case would have resulted in disqualification in 2024 but not ten years ago. After rio where gold, silver and bronze in the women’s 800m were all won by athletes with sexual difference from xx females in 3 different ways, world athletics ruled out xy athletes from female comps. Thjs will be a similar situation if the 2 athletes in question come first and second. But I don’t think the ioc can change rules mid comp. And Imane is not at fault.

Why did her/his team refuse to allow the Olympics doctor to examine him? Far too many people over the years and now claim that she has testicles.
