What separates the chorus from other love songs is that he genuinely loved whoever he's singing about and was desperate enough to let her cheat even though he was highly against it. Sure it's better to break it up with her, but there was too much passion in their relationship to simply leave it. You don't see love songs nowadays that explain heartbreak to that great extent.
