It’s interesting how much information is lost when you don’t know the original language.

Tenya’s name and the name of his family’s hero agency also references a type of motor engine

I can just imagine a japanease kid watching anime and telling his mom:
MAMA LOOK ITS *to walk through shadow and ever lasting darkness* ITS MY FAVORITE CHARACTER!!

"That's like naming a character that has electricity abilities tunder lighting"

But sounds good tho

Its funnier when you realize that in all these anime parents named their kids those things before those kids ever manifested those abilities or traits. Its like 2 random parents have a child they choose to name Thunder Lightning, and then 10 years later that random nobody awakens lightning magic. Or the guy named Ben Scarface just happens to get a bad scar on his face when he is a teenager in his first battle.

Its so prolific you would think they change their names after the fact, but when there is no direct evidence that is not the case, they also never bring it up in other contexts. Like when the Top 10 all have powers exactly matching their names, and then the new MC shows up replacing one of them named William with powers over Darkness, no one goes to them and says they should change their name to Shadowfall or something. So you just got Lighting Thunderstorm with lighting magic, Ember Bonfire with Fire magic, Swift Windstorm with Air magic, Rocky Mountain with Earth magic, and Todd of Accounting with Darkness magic. (because of course when he said he was an accountant they thought that was his last name)

I'm sorry but the funniest shit to me and the most obvious is Kirishima having the name of a mountain, having a literal rock quirk (he doesn't just harden, his skin becomes like a rock), and that alone would be funny, like Kaminari's name... But then one of Bakugo's favorite hobbies being mountain climbing

I'm not saying it was on purpose but that shit always cracks me up

In MHA I usually expect a cool pun in names
Even if lost in translation it’s still makes it funnier and i fun to learn

I love how unapologetically edgy Fumikage is. Like straight up Shadow the Hedgehog levels of edge.

When i found out that nana is another way to say 7 in Japanese than i almost immediately thought of Nana Shimura. A second later i realized that she is the 7. user of OFA

Literally had this conversation last night with my roomie. Shout out to "Mina Acid" and "Nine Green Valley". I absolutely love it 🧡

Another example is Tatsuya Shiba, his last name "Shiba" sounds like the Japanese pronunciation of the name "Shiva" the god of destruction who is the inspiration behind the character's personality and abilities

frieren is the most obvious one for me. All the names (characters and places) are German and they describe the characters or the places quite well.

A good example for this is Hitohito Tadano

The only thing I knew is that "Midori" means "green" and that's why Midoriya is green haired

Fun Fact:
Kōhei Horikoshi the author of BNHA said "Bleach helped to inspire me in my youth to become a manga artist"...

For nomenclature he used to draw a zanpakuto in it "Shikai/Bankai" form and give them names to there ability to describe them, As in BLEACH Tite Kubo is having alot of nomenclature but as he said only less then 10% will know them.
