20 athletes took 90 seconds each to freestyle across obstacles such as cars, giant tires, mailboxes and a crane at Boston's City Hall Plaza in front of nearly 5,000 spectators.

Based on their run, eight athletes advanced to the next round. From there a winner was chosen. Jason Paul of Frankfurt, Germany took home the trophy and the title of Red Bull Art of Motion Boston champion.

The art of motion has given many people the chance to make incredible friends, visit incredible places, get amazing opportunities, and do things they would have never normally done. I know personally that these people you call the worst in the community are some of the best people in the world. All the things you hate about it are fabricated in your own head about what a competition has to be

@TheNiNjaMonkey23 It's important because people dedicate their lives to something that defines them, becomes them. Parkour is supposed to be purely non competitive that's one of the things that defines what it is so for someone outside of that world to come along and call something a "parkour competition" is like a slap in the face to the practitioners.

I remember growing up doing stuff like this and never knowing it could be perfected like these guys. Great video, I need to see this shit live!

@Flatline89 The way Ryan explained it in another video he described it as a gathering of Runners here to conquer a set environment, not necessarily pitted against each other. Its really based on perspective i guess. And the way i see it is...understand the difference between the two (freerunning and parkour) and then ultimately realize they are one.

@tommarjuki if you ask any of the competitors.. including me that competed in this event.. if they were doing "parkour and or free running" everyone would say no.. we are expressing ourselves through MOVEMENT.. movement is its own definition.. and we were not competing against eachother.. it was simply us against the course and OURSELVES.. and we clearly stated where EVERYONE knew that.. how is that a slap in the face to practitioners? we ourselves are practitioners...

Redbull. You dont
Parkour: Without competition, and effective movements.
Freerunning: Competition, and a lot of trick moves.

@TheNiNjaMonkey23 That's fine man express yourselves nothing wrong with that at all but i've seen red bull mislabeling some of their other events too. They call bboy battles breakdancing battles, it's just misinformation. More to the point though, obviously you live freerunning and that's dope i respect anyone who has a passion for movement but from my perspective and what i see i'd still say this was freerunning. Respect for what you do this is just my opinion, peace.

@Flatline89 Does it matter? It's all just movement, right?
