As a Palestinian I always wondered who exactly my ancestors were from a historical/biblical perspective and this fills in a lot of blanks. My genetic profile says I’m a blend of Southern/Northern Levantine(74%), Mesopotamian(17%) and Jewish(9%). I was thinking of watching this in full when it occurred to me that there's potential for being misled. So I concluded that what's best is to work with what God has told us, which is that Abraham was the best man that God found at the relevant time, and that is why God chose Abraham to be the foundation of the family that shall have no end. Abraham's chosen son is Isaac, and Isaac's chosen son is Jacob. Ain't no more to it. In the end, either people have joined to become Israelites correctly or they have an end.

At the time of Abraham, Melchizedek was listed as a priest of God. He was also king of Salem, an early name of Jerusalem, so there is a connection between God and Jerusalem that predates David by quite a bit.
