The method the other guy explained will work just fine as well. It's good to have different methods in the event that you need to know how to do something and don't have your toolbox nearby.

Center Head, you can find them just about anywhere they sell wood or metal manufacturing products, and should be one of the first tools you buy, Jeff said his is 35 yrs old, mine is 30 yrs.
When you need to find center of a round object this is the tool you should be reaching for in your tool box, I keep mine in the Starrett box it came in, the identifying number is on the box should I need to oder a spring or thumb screw for it, havent had to but its there.
For larger round parts you can put it on a 24" blade.
Just a tip, when I use the center head I get much more accurate results if I use a razor blade or exacto knife rather than a pencil.

Don't you need to factor the with of the pencil led ? The corner to corner technique, even if not parallel, is much more accurate.

DOES NOT WORK FOR ME! What am I doing wrong? I bought a combination square at Harbor Freight that had the angle part. I am using a 1inch dowel. The center is off about 1/16 in when checked with my digital calibers. I can see it's off by eye too. OK, Harbor Freight junk. But we aren't making aircraft doors here. I checked the angle part and it is true 90 degrees enough for basic woodworking.
