I empathize much with the waistband troubles. I made a linen waffle weave wrap dress to act as a towel for wandering around the house after a shower or as a cover up at the beach, and trying to make the ties was a NIGHTMARE. I salute your fortitude in trying to turn the tube for a whole hour, and I'm so glad you got it to turn after lunch! I ended up folding the ties like double fold bia tape and ladder stitching the seams by hand. It took

I love the causal/idgaf vibes in this video. You made me giggle a few times. I love the free mood patterns as a inspiration resource and a learning tool. I've only made one thing from there, the Heather dress (and I used that bodice to create my block), but I've saved like 20 of their patterns. Anyway, I'm excited to see that series. This apron turned out so cute! Great job!

Love you mentioned your water goes everywhere when you do dishes. I have lived with getting wet shame for over 20 yrs. Kept it to myself. Sooo, who knew a sewing video would be therapy! 😉
Thanks for informing us about mood patterns!
Ooh, Beewax would be a great water protector, but then you really can't throw in washer! Hmm, there are water proof sprays for fabrics that are available. But spray outside!

Cat I think you're coming into your own with this video, you made me laugh multiple times as you went through your process, and I found it really interesting. I certainly feel the real you coming through here and it's delightful.

The apron turned out so cute! I’m sure your friend Emily loves it. I have huge difficulty getting my friends to use things I make them, like tea towels etc., because they’re “too nice” and my friends don’t want to ruin them. So they wind up hanging out gathering dust as decorations. I need friends like yours. 😂

Cat 6 minutes in: "You're not funny, Cat, "
Me: Then why have I been laughing so much throughout this video?

Very sweet apron. Your friend is very fortunate.

For the beeswax, the iron method absolutely needs you to use a lot of beeswax on one spot. Think of it like using a crap ton of cheese on your pasta, until it’s hard to see the pasta underneath lol.

I really appreciate how you share your thought process here. That moment where you took a break to eat and found a solution to the band-turning issue is such a good reminder. Lovely apron!

There are many hydrophobic sprays you can get that work amazingly and leave the linen feeling like it ought but having superb repellency. I figure this out with a linen hat that I coated because a) white and b) live in rainy Norway. I've since used it on the front of a few linen blouses since I like to spill everything on my shirts as a way to keep them nice looking. You'd never even know they are there from the hand of the fabric. I am happy to provide links to the ones I have used. They do cost a bit, but a little goes a long way.

Omg, I love Moods free pattern library! I made several clothes by them and every single one is easy and worked out without a meltdown!

Oh I’m so excited for that series! I’d love some historical pattern hacks to modern patterns!!!

I've found that using an old electric skillet to melt and keep my wax warm...works best. I use beeswax and an old paintbrush to paint outlines for my works on silk when I paint with dyes. It does work but patience is the way to go. Your gift turned out gorgeous for your friend. I do sometimes just go all in when I'm excited about a project and end up scrambling later to finish it because I haven't enough supplies to finish. But you did very well.

Next time you need to sew some kind of strap that's too long & narrow to turn: you can iron the edges in and fold it wrong sides together, like double fold bias tape, and top stitch it very close to the edge. I like to stitch along the other edge too so it looks more even. Not great if you don't want any visible stitching but hey, it beats struggling to turn a strap for an hour ;)

I'm so excited for this new series! I've mentioned it before but your videos are so soothing to me; they give me serious Autumn sew on a couch while binging a show vibes.
