Oregon's record-setting heat wave was responsible for at least 54 confirmed deaths due to hyperthermia in Multnomah County, according to a report released Tuesday morning. According to the report, most of the Multnomah County residents who died were older, lived alone and had no air conditioning. They were primarily white and most were men.

Prior to June's heat wave, the county had recorded just two deaths due to hyperthermia since 2010, one in 2016 and the other in 2018. "More people died from the June 2021 heat wave in Multnomah County than died from heat in the entire state of Oregon in the past 20 years," the report states.

Condem an apartment building during a heat wave?! And send all those people...WHERE? Out on the street? Get real.

The lack of air conditioning drove us to spend the two hottest days in a motel room. We were lucky to get the room as almost every place I called was booked up with many local people that didn't have air-conditioning in their homes. Does anyone know if there were heat related deaths in Salem and were any of those from Salem's homeless community?

In NE NV high desert off grid, in my 70s, been up to 106* several days this past week. We're getting lots of gusty winds, without which, it would be unbearable even tho it blows dirt right into the cabin. I have 2 blaux USB charge small units I pour water into them..if water is cold, it helps...problem, RV refrigerators running on propane dont cool the fridge part due to the heat & freezer portion only freezes one or two water bottles at a time. I put frozen water containers into the lower fridge section, just don't try keep milk or fresh produce during the heat wave. All my gardening veggies are bolting from Sun burn despite being watered. One big help of desert life is that temps lower enough nights so I get a few hours of precious relief. In W Canada, was hitting 129* & millions crustaceans, mollysks, etc being boiled alive to dead while on bay bottom, beyond sad.
