FRONTMAN Showed up at Female Icon’s Hotel Door NAKED USING Her SONG as PICKUP LINE-Professor Of Rock

Coming up, the story of an epic collaboration between one of rock’s most iconic rebels Joan Jett and one of the most prolific songwriters of the era Desmond Child. This rock legend had a bold, risqué song title that no one would dare play, but she had the riff to back it up. All she needed was some expert help to craft a radio-friendly title and some unforgettable lyrics. The song, eventually titled I Hate Myself for Loving You became a big ol’ hit, making waves in pop culture, with NFL fans, and even catching the attention of a fellow Hall of Fame singer who tried to use the chorus as a pickup line at her hotel door. You’re gonna love this saucy narrative…NEXT on Professor of Rock.

Today’s story is a great lesson. To start out, Joan Jett is one of the coolest to ever pick up a guitar. I’ve seen here live a bunch of times including this last summer and is such a natural. She is a true trailblazer of the Rock Era, as a co-founder of the all-female rock & punk band the Runaways, and with the Blackhearts, the band that has backed up her dynamic solo career. Under the visionary guidance of her manager Kenny Laguna, Joan went solo after leaving the Runaways in ’79.

On her 2nd solo album, she crushed it- totally dominating the airwaves in 1982 with one of the biggest hits of the year, and three consecutive Top 20 singles: the #1 smash “I Love Rock n’ Roll,” followed by “Crimson & Clover” and “Do You Wanna Touch Me.” But, after that incredible cycle of breakout success, Joan’s stock cooled, and she experienced a 4-year drought with no hits. Being the intrepid fighter that she is, Joanie bounced back in ’87, with a hit movie, and one of her most successful singles- “I Hate Myself for Loving You.” But it was almost a completely different title and song. So I chose my word very carefully when I described Joan Jett as “intrepid.” She had to be in order to make it in a male-dominated business. At many gigs, the quintet of The Runaways were ridiculed & sometimes spit on, by men in the audience. Joan recounted one of those nights that they were spit on while touring through Europe. It was in the early 80s when Joan was on tour as Joan Jett & the Blackhearts- opening for The Scorpions in Spain and Italy. Joan found that those countries had such a macho culture, and seeing a woman on stage playing guitar just didn’t sit right with them.

They couldn’t understand what she was doing, and they absolutely hated it. The crowd was vicious—screaming every profanity you could imagine and calling Joan every filthy name in the book. And the spitting?.. It was relentless. As gross as it sounds, Joan said that she was literally covered in spit from head to toe; she said it was hanging off of her! After a while, their attacks became very personal for Joanie. Her fearless nature took over. She went from being scared to getting angry & indignant. Joan’s attitude was, ‘Bring it on!’ Do whatever you’re gonna do…You’ll have to kill me to get me off stage.

Joan Jett…and American institution.
Been a fan of hers since the 1970’s.
But…being an Air Force Veteran, many people may not know that she really supports the American military and has proven it for years by entertaining the troops over the years in areas of war.
She and her band, like others, would bring a little piece of America to the troops that protect the Western way of life and offer some well needed time off and enjoyment from their day to day duties.
Hats off to her.

I live in SC and after almost 1 week without power (and still no internet except from my phone) and dealing with the massive cleanup still going on, this channel is the one thing that makes me feel like life is still ‘normal’ and everything’s Thanks Adam…. seriously!!! 😊❤

It's horrible how she and the Runaways were treated just for being talented female rockers. She is so beyond bad ass from the start, she deserves all the 💐 🌹 🌸 🏵 🌼

My 18 year old and I saw her over the summer with Alanis and holy crap. She is just amazing live. My daughters jaw was on the floor, and a new fan was born.

I met Joan in 2003 on the Afghanistan/Pakistan border where she went to entertain the troops. Just her on vocals and a guy playing the guitar. What a great performer and a gracious amazing person.

Everyone knows "I Love Rock n' Roll", but me personally, "I Hate Myself For Loving You" is my favorite Joan Jett song.

Isn’t it funny that Desmond Child changed the song title, then a couple years later another ex-Runaway - Lita Ford - has a hit where she sings, “I went to a party last Saturday night, didn’t get laid, got in a fight.” Love it. And Joan Jett is a legend.

I saw Joan at a small club in St.Louis in '92. I had my favorite concert memory that night. Joan Jett smiled at me. 😊

I went to highschool with Joan. She looked the part of a rock star. She was developing her talent. It was the mid 70's

This is my personal favorite Joan Jett song. It was huge back in the day - I remember going to dance clubs and dancing to your typical house, dance-mix songs and then out of nowhere, the blazing rocker, "I Hate Myself For Loving You" would be played - and we all ate it up. And then back to the normal dance-mix songs. Hearing Joan Jett, no matter where I was at, was always a highlight.

I've always liked I Hate Myself for Loving You (not played enough) far more than I Love Rock N Roll (played WAY too much)....

My dad (super Conservative) had such a crush on Joan Jett and she was his musical goddesses. When Joan Jett came out as lesbian/bisexual, my dad was devastated, his fantasy crush was... crushed.

My Joan Jett story is on the strange side. I was in 7th grade when I Love Rock N' Roll came out. We were in the locker room and were changing back to our clothes after going swimming. Standing on a bench was this big Jamaican guy (he must have been held back a couple of years because he was the size of an adult) toweling off his buck naked body, gyrating and singing I Love Rock N' Roll in a Jamaican accent. Good times in the '80s.

I love the channel Professor.

I've always loved Joan Jett's rendition of Crimson and Clover. This was a great band with a really bad ass singer. Loved all her songs.

I honestly did not realize that they were actually spat upon. Good God. Anyway, although I'm quite a bit older, The Professor always provides information of which I was unaware. Thanks!
