How do 'arrest warrants' work? (Former DA explains)

A former D.A. explains when judges issue arrest warrants, and how the process works.

Judges can issue arrest warrants when there is a showing of probable cause by police, prosecutors or grand juries. These direct law enforcement to arrest the named person and bring him before a judge or magistrate to answer to the charges.

Before a judge will issue an arrest warrant, there must be a showing of probable cause that the person committed a crime.

If the police show up at your door with a warrant for your arrest they have to have it. They cannot say they have one and arrest you. I got pulled over one time a cop said the DMV suspended my license. He handcuffed me and took me to the police station. I said I have my license he said they sent you a letter and you ignored it. He said he was going to take me to jail. I said well I have the money to post bail when I do I am going to call DMV and when they said they did not send me a letter I am suing your ass for $25, 000 he took the handcuffs off me and said get the fuck out of here. I did call the DMV they said my license was not suspended and they never sent me a letter I informed our mayor he called the DMV also. 3 days later the officer was fired.

Are not the court supposed to send the defendant a notice in the mail informing them that they have a warrant on them.
