Why The AVR Is CRITICAL To Your Home Theater System

We're starting with a little history of the audio video receiver and talking about how the technology advances evolved in this week's video. Chief Product Officer Andrew Welker makes the case that the AVR is one of the most critical parts of your home theater system.

Can you buy a cheap AVR? Of course you can, but should you? Certainly not if you have an expensive 4K TV and want to get the most out of it.

Looking forward to hearing whether you agree with Andrew on the AVR being critical to your home theater system.

Fall in love with your music🎵 all over again❤️

I understand this video was made a year ago but I would love your opinion on pairing an AVR with the A95L. Thank you for your time!

Enjoy your tutorials.
I don't know when you consider the early days of AVRs. Back in 1999 I purchased a Kenwood AV-2090 that I was able to use an ordinary Sony DVD player by opting to use the optical and utilizing the processor in the Kenwood. Later, since I had another optical hookup, when I got a blu-ray player I just got a run of the mill Sony. So I've always leaned towards a quality AVR. Since my Kenwood has no HDMI I opted to upgrade to a Marantz unit that has the same functions as the Kenwood as far as the multi room function.

I love my Arcam AVR5 in my 7.4.4 setup (awesome for movies that I rate 4/5, and music 3/5).

I do NOT recommend the Denon X3700H (good for movies that I rate 3/5, but not music 2/5).

I do NOT recommend the Denon S760H (good price but as far as quality, for movies I rate 2/5, music 2/5).

I shielded my HDMI cables and my noise floor had come down by 10% but unless one hasn't already shielded the rest of the cables one probably wouldn't notice this!

I have a Yamaha RX-V471 AVR for a fairly long time but never thought of it that way, thanks. On a side note: My Samsung TV has a separate source connection box which then connects to the TV. When I switched to YouTube TV from Dish, I purchased a Firestick 4K to stream it and instead of connecting to the AVR HDMI I'm using the Samsung connection box then outputting digital audio to the AV1 jack on my AVR for surround sound. I could connect the Firestick directly to the AVR and output the video to the Samsung connection box but it gets a better wifi signal up and out from the back of the entertainment stand. Not sure if I'm degrading the signal this way but to the below comments it may be better (video direct to TV and digital audio direct to amp)

The two best days of receiver ownership, the day you buy one and the day you trade it in on a processor.
After years of receiver ownership I discovered the Emotivs MC1, a thousand dollar 13.2 channel processor. If you are experienced in this hobby this processor can be a game changer.

The quality of your setup is always only as good as it's weakest link. Something I was told many moons ago

I started with an AVR, but, as I amassed better amplification I switched to a Pre-Pro and only worry about the correct inputs and outputs to the relevant amplifiers. Why continue to purchase built in amplification when you have better quality already?

If you use an AVR then, yes, the AVR is essential. I have just two speakers and don't need all that multi-channel coordination. In that case I can get by without any HDMI connections.

I totally agree, for me the AVR is a huge component and simplifies with HDMI. Will analog even pass signals like Atmos, 4KUHD, HDR formats? Which brings up a question maybe you would address sometime. With my AVR, how do i know what the sound of the original recording or as close to the original as possible would be? Whether it's from a CD, BLURAY or streaming? Thanks for another interesting video.

I shouldn’t run my Axiom home Theatre 7.2 speaker setup using my $99 Boxing Day Blowout Special Onkyo AVR…?

why is it called avr? how is the "V" a part of it? last time i had a surround receiver i never plugged video into it. its a amplifier for speaker first of all (unless it is a surround processor).

I wish there were future proof home cinema audio or video processors which could be upgraded physically and logically (software). Also there should be a way of a home cinema retailer to buy back or exchange your old equipment for new ones. While the Audio Video receiver (AVR) might be the best affordable compact solution, I’m not sure why they still come with built in FM/AM radio. They are called AVR instead of amplifier because they have radio. If not they would be called amps just like Denon used to on their flagship models. Edit: I miss the days of hifi home cinema separates.

Now I understand what those analog inputs on an AVR are for lol

Just checked Crutchfield. They only have a $1099 Panasonic and a $500 Panasonic Blu-ray players that have analog outputs, but how much better can the built-in DACs inside those Blu-ray players really be, especially if you use cheap RCA cables to connect the player to the AVR!

If someone makes a high-end Blu-ray player with an outstanding DAC, then I might give it a try. Until then, I will stick to the DAC built into the AVR.

Sir Good Video. I m using Yamaha HTR 3072 entry level AVR. with all yamaha high end premium Bookshelf Speakers and woofers. I received YAPO with AVR. Pl answer YAPO result is accurate in room occupied with furniture, cupboard etc. I tried but not satisfied with result. Some speakers DB level is going negative n sound is horrible. I think it is ok in empty room. Pl reply. I repeat this question again in this video. Hope you reply and waiting eagerly for your reply. Thnks

Start by getting the best amplifiers that you can't buy, after get the best speakers and the last thing to buy is the AVR or home theater processor, because it's the AVR and home theater processor you will have to change more often, because there's always new audio format and HDMI that will come out avery few years. So buy a home theatre processor with and upgradable HDMI board and capable of downloading new formats. But that's my opinion.
