Jiu jitsu has made me such a more confident human being it’s insane. I don’t really care that much if I can beat someone up or not yet, all I know is that I feel and act like an improved version of myself compared to 6 months ago when I started.
BJJ does so much more for your confidence than lifting does, but obviously still do both

Everyone is saying JJ is useless when up against more than 1 opponent. Like no shit, knowing JJ doesnt make you an action hero.

Guest: What is the benefit of knowing Jujitsu?

Joe Rogan: Well...if we got in a fight...that would kill you.

It's not always about the strong. But about those who are able to adapt.
And adapting requires an intelligent mind.

Jj is great one on one. The truth is that in real combat situations its nearly NEVER a one on one fight. Nearly everytime I have had to be ready to use martial arts it was anywhere from 3 to 7 on one and i was in these situations 8 times. The only thing that stopped the fight was pulling the baton or knife I carried since I practice the martial art of Eskrima. The real world isn't a UFC match, it isn't fair, and while you try and choke one guy out you will get stomped on or the guy you are choking will pull a knife.

Yes gun is the best but EVERYONE has access to sticks and knives, guns are much harder to get.

I’m a first-degree black belt in BJJ. And grappling BJ J his room right there at the top if not at the top. But I also love Wrestling and Catch Wrestling specifically. There’s a reason why all the best UFC fighters and champions have a strong wrestling background. Wrestling is better in a fight

JJ is awesome....until you get in a real fight and the person you're fighting has one friend there. Then they kick you in the head.

People that train in BJJ are like vegans, they'll always let you know about it 😂

What’s interesting to me is that every in single scenario that I been in for any amount of time, and I’m 67 now, the “pecking order”had nothing to do with your ability to fight. I guess it depends on the what you do with your life.

I get that BJJ is great one on one in a fair and controlled environment, but an attack on the street is just so different from that. As passionate as he is, I think Jocko needs to calm down a bit as he has a responsibility to what he's putting out there, and someone could get hurt. Street violence doesnt play by the rules unfortunately.

At the end of the day, nothing else matters if you can’t protect what’s yours. Your loved ones, everything you’ve worked so hard for, cared for.

Jiu jitsu has its place in self defense. For a confrontation in a public place where a some attacks you that may have friends near by a striking style would be ideal because you can stop the aggressor while staying on your feet and ready if you need to continue defending. In saying that I had a work situation where I collided with a coworker by accident. He balled up on me I jumped into my stace and he regathered himself and realized what happened. Fortunately nothing happened but if something had I could have clinched up with him and if necessary gone to the ground and used a submission until someone broke us up. So my opinion is jiu jitsu has its place in self defense but not always the best thing.

It can certainly work. Jiu jitsu guys used to throw me around like ragdoll in the gym, submitting me at will. That said, when it came to light sparring with some mma rules, shootboxing almost, they often folded after a couple of shots received.

To me it's the combo of Jiu Jitsu and Krav Maga. Of course neither is a guarantee to get out of any situation unharmed. The best fight is that which can be avoided. But it gives you that confidence for once which can avoid a start from breaking out. It gives you that belief that you can fuck your opponent up more than he will. Even in a group. The risk alone that they can be seriously harmed can stop them all from taking action. And even if a fight were to happen, with Krav Maga and Jiu you have trained both, fighting on your legs and on the ground.

Either way, before that you should try to avoid fighting. Even if it means running away.

Before you go around and comment on how useless jiu jitsu is do yourself a favor and take a free class. You wont only find out how effective it could actually be in certain situations but you’ll also find out how little you know about any martial art. It takes time to get good at anything and that goes with “fighting”. The scenarios in your head aren’t real and its most likely the ego that leads you on to believe that you’ll be kicking ass. I say this because i was once like this. Now training jiu jitsu and MMA consistently i can say i was in the wrong. Try it
